I can't imagine the profound sadness of those of you who knew Devon personally. This news breaks my heart, and I never even met the young man. His humility and kindness were so evident, it could even overshadow his immense talent. May God comfort you and his family in the coming days.

I was stunned when I got the call last night about Devon... was 'heartbroken'. Such a respectful, polite, endearing, good-natured young man. I tear up thinking about him... we loved you Devon for your prowess on the field but more so, for the above attributes listed. As a 'true blue' tornado fan who enjoyed watching you play... may God's comfort and peace rest on your family and upon all in the Richlands' community that viewed you as family. Once again, to young, to early... I had the honor of watching Devon play as a Blue, along with Austin and AJ. They were certainly gifted and it was magical watching them with their skill level. Devon after the game, when I would get the opportunity to speak to him, ALWAYS that smile and gracious heart were on display. God bring peace and comfort to this family.

Reed changed their culture. Abingdon has always been knows as soft..he toughened them up and some of the kids and parents probably had a hard time adjusting. The kids that are still there are tough because of reed and his staff. Give them a couple years...they be back to being soft again.

An absolute tragedy when anyone very young passes no matter the circumstances. Prayers of comfort for the family and friends, who seem to be numerous, and not limited to just SWVA.

Graham fans, in general, know very little about those "ghosts"...and it isn't like Graham doesn't practice on grass field...

This was fun to do. Thanks for running it and this season. It's hard to believe another regular season is already over. Time goes by way too fast!

That is laughable. Sorry but there isn't a snowballs chance that Abingdon finishes this season 8-2 this year doing the same thing we did last season. Let alone winning games against Union and Ridgeview and being the 3 seed to host a playoff game. And before you say something to the effect I don't know.. My son is a senior and I've been around the program long enough to know.

You guys kill me. You act as if games were not moved back in the day. We played in mud up to our knees mentality. Games were moved "ALL THE TIME" due to rain and snow and sometimes even cancelled. Now I realize that when the postponed games were played it was still quite muddy and not ideal. We are smarter and have the ability to know more about weather so why not take advantage of it? Go back and look through the score sheets I have on each team's history and look at all the postponed games. The only difference is they were played on Saturday, Monday or a mutual open date in the future.

If anyone saw the F/A-18 Flyover at Lane Stadium Saturday, you might enjoy a little more detail on the crew. Stacy is a good friend of my wife. They graduated from VT together in 2000. They met as freshmen when my wife was trying out for The Marching Virginians and Stacy was trying out for the Highty-Tighties. Stacy is only the 2nd female Squadron Commander in Navy history. When was Reed's best year at Abingdon?? The year they played Lord Botetourt. Who called his offense that year?? Who came with him when he first got the Abingdon job? What was the difference in Reed at Wise Central and Reed at Abingdon....NICK COLOBRO!!! People who know, know why Abingdon was successful and they know why Reed started his decline at Abingdon, they also know why Luke Owens went 6-4 the year after Reed left at Central.... think about it!

Had to upgrade to the Sports Package just to see the game last night. Hopefully alot of their games will be on FSN. It's worth the extra $15 a month im paying now if I get to see Mac on TV once a week.

i can personally say there is about 12 to 15 inches of sand under the turf somewhere, after the flood of 1977 COACH BOLLING had us all down there raking the sand and putting the crown on the field. BERMUDA GRASS was added by PHIL and over the years tons of turf builder have maintained the field.What you cant do is replace grass that is torn up during a rain event during a game, as i stated before the next game is my concern and the fact that if someone complains to the VHSL the game may be moved to....uuugh!WISE CENTRAL

Condolences and prayers for his family and the entire Richlands community. Sad to hear someone so young has past with the future and life ahead of them.

Very Heartbroken to hear this about Devon. He played in our FCA Va -Tenn All Star Game at Science Hill and was such a nice young man. The best player ever to represent Va versus those Tenn guys. He scored 3 touchdowns and rushed for nearly 150 yards against Tennessee's best. He was our MVP. I followed his career at Marshall . What a great career for the Thundering Herd. Prayers for his family, friends, and the Richlands community.

You know what the Hell you were doing. Your first post was absurd, and it’s preposterous that you feel the need to defend it. Regardless the reason, a young man has passed away, and it’s basic human decency to avoid taking shots at someone. Were this my board, I’d permaban you for this.

Prayers for Devon's family and friends. Gone too soon. I enjoyed watching him play, a special talent and seemed to be liked by teammates and opponents as well. Rest in peace.

& the Big Creek/War,WV community too. Even though he finished his career up at Richlands the people in southern McDowell County loved Devon and was overly proud of all he accomplished.

Marions this past Friday

I was not at that game but I’ve seen them play. IMO Tazewell has more overall speed than VA High but VA high is more disciplined and better up front than that Tazewell group. VA High has all kinds of speed in the back field but not anyone that scares you on the outside. There is always a chance especially if it rains and Graham can not connect on deep balls.

I do hope my Bearcats get another shot at Graham, just preferably not in the first round lol. Graham is for sure the measuring stick in 2D this year, I just want us to get another shot, while we’re healthy.
