Yeah, if the kid decided he didn't want to play I respect that decision. If the kid didn't play just because his father was upset I hate that for the kid, ya know. Sometimes getting rid of parents like that also help a program, not always, but sometimes. I just hate it for the kid.

Legit question. I wonder myself sometimes. haha The ones that are there super early are a mix of retirees, housewives, and folks that are off from work on Fridays. A good portion of the rest are school employees that are off at 3:30 and drive straight to the Park. I distinctly remember the priceless looks on the faces of the Clarke Co people in 2015 when everyone made a mad dash for those tiny visitor bleaches. And on top of that, our 90 + member band traveled 5 hours for that game, and their own didn't even show up. They were in complete disbelief. And then the week earlier against Glenvar. There were some people already in their stands(guess they came in with the coaches and players) videoing and laughing as the hoards of Bear fans went running for the bleachers. It is both ridiculous and awesome at the same time. lol

  14. Article about Brady Webb’s season ending injury. “I’ve had a lot of support from everyone at the school,” Webb said. “The one person that has helped me more than anyone was my old coach, Jeremy Houseright. He has checked on me almost every day.” Quote above speaks volumes. Rest of the article here: http://www.heraldcourier.com/sports/sidelined-webb-still-pours-heart-into-gate-city-program/article_d6af5218-bacf-11e7-a216-0b32ed6ca20c.html

It’s funny that you ignore the meat and potatoes of my post, and then devour the after-dinner mint like a starving pit bull. The main theme of my post was “stop spouting delusional opinions”. The secondary theme, which I hope sinks in somehow, someway, is that this is a long-established community that has a low-key yet harmonious order. Acting like some Hollywood stage parent because we aren’t prostrating our lowly selves at the altar of Gate City football like the Canaanites to Baal is not only turning the community against you, but poisoning perception against your team and school. I bet they wouldn’t be too happy with the sideshow the unsilent minority of Gate City fans are putting on here. The tertiary theme is that fans of programs like Graham, Bluefield, Richlands, Giles, and Union don’t have the wanker envy over Gate City’s tradition that you fantasize we do. Graham won a state title back when there was only one and it truly meant something. Union has almost triple the combined titles you do, Bluefield almost double. Giles has the same number and has been much more dominant recently. Richlands has been the gold standard for 15 years now. Unlike Gate City, those 5 teams have a future that isn’t as bleak as a Johnny Cash wardrobe in the middle of a mile-long abandoned mine shaft at midnight. TL;DR: Get over thineself.

You don't know who my team is, im not a Ridgeview guy(I don't live in Dickenson County anymore and don't have any connections to the team). My sample size of the GC fan base is very small, maybe 10 people total. No where did I state anything to the contrary but that sample is pretty diverse. I assume you have spoken to every GC supporter? Probably not, so its safe to say your sample size is around 5-10%. But that is just my opinion. Google search "Akers, gate city" and this comes up https://www.thepetitionsite.com/629/493/130/demand-coach-akers-be-replaced/ id say that's enough to say he is being ran off. Plus theres all the posts on this board stating that he needs to go. That is my opinion. I don't like seeing GC like this, nobody really does(well there are some that undoubtedly do). Its ok to see them have a horrible season to cap off a string of bad seasons but for SWVA football to be strong GC needs to be strong. That's what I want to see. If Id wanted to say "every single poster" that's what I would have said, I said "others" as in some but not all, there is no difference. Am I neutral? No I support local football and support a local team, Im invested to some degree but what Im really doing is discussing the ins and outs of local football on a DISCUSSION board. Im not bitter, angry, or jealous of GCs success. My school took 2 whoopings from GC in football and 1 that I remember in basketball (im not really a basketball guy). The only thing that im bitter or angry about concerning GC is the fact that them playing up through the 90s contributed to drawing Haysi up into D2 and cost my program some success(throw Grundy and Graham into that pot, imo they screwed us but ive discussed that before, no secret there). Your arrogance is unbelievable. As if the only way that someone could disagree with you is that they hate Gate City and are jealous. No way it could be that theyre just discussing the situation

  17. All things being equal, I think Central/GC and Tazewell/Grundy determine the #1 seed. Even if Richlands loses to Va High. Sleeper games are Princeton/Brooke and Mo West/Bearden. The following is based on Central over GC, Va High over Richlands, Grundy over Tazewell, Princeton over Greenbrier, Brooke over Princeton, and Grayson losing their last 2. A tie for #1 between Union/Graham would go to Union for "best overall record". A tie between Union/Marion would come down to "highest average rating of all opponents". 1.) Union 10-0 268 26.8 2.) Graham 9-1 268 26.8 3.) Ridgeview 9-1 262 26.2 4.) Marion 9-1 249 24.9 5.) Va High 7-3 232 23.2 6.) Lee 6-4 211 21.1 7.) Battle, John 5-5 190 19 8.) Central-Wise 3-7 176 17.6 8.) 26. Agree with both these post, and #6 is a good athlete who can run down hill, and in space. So WR or RB either one would be a good fit for him. #6 is more accurate on passing so it would be interesting. I would hope that the coaches don't forget the run package with a full back, it seems to work pretty well inside the red zone.

  34. Love the visitor seating in Abingdon, but love the game atmosphere in Bullit Park. Both groups of fans treat you with respect, and I know there is always that few, but 90% of the fans from both teams have always been respectful. I see this being close, but Union's line may be to much for Abingdon. Union 24 Abingdon 21

Bullitt parks bleachers are too small. So you get there early to get a seat. They start the count down to the gates opening on the gameclock. At 5pm the running of the Bears begins. Gotta love fan support.

Congrats to PH and Chilhowie for having a great season so far. It's going to be a good game but I think Chilhowie wins this one. I feel that the Warriors are more battle tested with the opponents that they have faced so far this year. 28-13

  39. Mainly a talent drop off. This year, and a couple of years in the past, injuries have hurt them. It doesn't help being a small fish in a big pond. It's a shame because that team has been through a lot over the past couple of years. Hopefully they can get it together sooner rather than later and give the school a team they can rally behind, it's just a little too late this season. At this point, the only thing they can hang their hat on is being "The 2-6 Russell County Champions."

  40. I'm really not sure because they have been very relevant over the last few years in baseball, but have been on a steady decline in football.

  41. Truth. Some start forming a line around 830 or so in the A.M. at home games and tailgate all day. I know of a couple that are there before daylight. If your not there when the gates open at Bullitt Park, your not getting a seat unless someone has saved you one pretty much. Within 2 minutes 90% of the home stands are full.

There are several Parking lots around the high school. Depending which way you come into Abingdon. From Hwy 19, via Russell Rd, and left onto Valley St. If you come down Valley St, Which will turn into Walden Rd and turn Right onto Boone St towards the high school you can make a left at the old tennis courts about halfway up Boone St and park in the lower parking lot. I believe there is a sign there that says Washington County Schools Maintenance. There is a ticket booth there and is closest to the visitors side. Also there is a concession stand on the visitors side. You can also park on Thompson Dr (Boone St turns into Thompson Dr as you go past the practice field). Directly next to the school is a parking lot but that is reserved parking only.

Turn at the tennis courts off of Thompson Drive. Follow that road to the visitors parking lot. There will be a concession stand at the gate, and you can purchase tickets there as well.

  47. Have to say that I am on the G wagon this year. A lot of me pulling for other county schools comes from how they acted against us on the field and etc... This year both Graham and Richlands were respectful on the field as far as the players go. Certain coach another story...lol Wanted to go down to Richlands and watch last week and would have been on the Graham side to sit with some friends, just didn't work out for me.
