  1. Huge win obviously for the Bears. I kept hearing Adkins was better than Thomas Jones and was the best RB to ever play in this area. He's a good football player, but not close folks (not to mention all of the great backs like Julius,Stonega Stallion,Boo Sensabaugh...etc. and vs those nasty LPD defenses as well as playing folks like GC when they were non distric). Having said that he still has time to get better and will (like James Mitchell did at Union),but an SEC D1 prospect? Not right now

  2. He also shuts his mouth and lets his pads do the talking. No showboating when he houses it either. He plays the game with the respect that it should be played with.

UVA has offered 3 graham players in the last 3 seasons. VT had two SWVA players on their roster this past year. Polier is a heck of a football player but in D1 recruiting measurables matter more than tape

  4. I don't agree on the Adkins semi-bashing. The kid had to deal with Union in his backfield all night long and was still just a moment from taking any play to the house. He turned plays that should be a 2-3 yard loss into 7-8 yard gains and that's the sign of an elite back. His coach didn't do him many favors tonight, I thought his number should have been called way more often. I wonder if he's 100% healthy. Polier was fantastic tonight, he picked up the slack big time with Lomax out and Guerrant cramping badly. All the LBs were great, Polier, Jones, Guerrant, 14, 30, etc.. I don't believe you have to try and discredit or slight Adkins to praise Polier.

WR of Ridgeview is a freak. Reminds me of Scotty Ball from Richlands. That was a cool game to watch online. Both teams looked very good. Polier can play D1 linebacker in my opinion. I mean, major D1. He's a beast.

Union wore down the RV defense, that was their game plan and it worked perfectly. RV has a small and inexperienced D-Line and it showed. Gotta give credit to the Union front seven too, they played tough. Overall this was a terrific game and hopefully we see the sequel in the playoffs at some point. However I have seen a lot of Adkins slander on this board today, and some saying Polier is better. I will say this, 43 has been the best two way player in the Conference since Mitchell graduated. And he’s probably the best two way player in the Region this year. He should be a D1 linebacker. Having said this, offensively, give me Adkins. I would like to remind everyone that 43 got almost 10 more carries than him last night which is a crime. Also, people have short term memory as they forgot what happened the first play from scrimmage. Unions game plan was to keep him off the field, and it worked. The time of possession difference was insane. Players like these two don’t come around often in this area so let’s just appreciate them instead of slandering either.

  10. Let's just say that Polier is the best COMPLETE player in the region hands down. The young man does it all. You could tell him they were going to cancel the game due to flooding and he'd grab a shovel and dig drainage ditches and drive the bus to get to the park:)

  11. I highly doubt it. M. Jones is out for the season Chance Harris is out for the season Isaiah Rife is out for the season Jojo (Josiah Jordan) Was just out due to ejection last week at Honaker Lucas Honaker is out for the season, and all the other, we have I think 10 or 11 starters out and anyone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s for the season. The injury bug has hit us hard as it does every year. This season is not over yet, however I hope these guys are back and stay healthy next season and I think they’ll have another great year. Although I get on here and talk a bunch of crap I’m on here for fun and to talk a little bit. Lol. However, I will root for Graham and Richlands as long as they aren’t playing tazewell. Good luck to the blues and the G-Men on the remaining season.

Per the Bristol herald. Polier finished with 240 yards and three scores on 32 carries as the Bears earned a 32-26 victory Ridgeview star running back Trenton Adkins was held to 119 yards on 23 carries.

  13. Is there a reason why RV doesn’t get in the I formation and just run Adkins 30 times?

  14. It's all good. We know he's secretly a Bear fan. Going to send him some Turner Salve and Bostic Balm to counteract that Mance cream. 😂

  15. I don’t really think it’s an argument? Adkins has no business winning POY awards after tonight. Polier out played him, his team won the game and Unions schedule is much more challenging than RV.

  22. Stolen from other board. Not sure how much I trust all of it. Richlands had 80 points last week and now only had 97 according to him. I would think beating a 4 win team would bring in more than 17 points? Plus GC, Union and Bluefield won so there’s 3 points and then Abingdon and Radford won so there’s 4 more. Maybe I’m crazy? 1. Narrows receiver

A little late is kind of what the poster was getting at with his original post. I think he was kind of saying he should have been mentioned a little bit before last night and it appears, he was right. All in all, I took his post originally not as a parent or someone disgruntled. I read it as a fan who saw what he thought was a solid player and he commented on it and stated that maybe the dude should get some more touches. That was the jest of his post aside from him being called a liar, one of the parents, etc. At the end of the day, the poster was right. The player he's talking about (I haven't seen Narrows) evidently is pretty good. I wrote this on here a while back which is similar. Polier against Graham. I watched it. I wrote I think they need to get that kid even more touches on offense and that he shouldn't be splitting as many carries. I wrote because I saw what I thought was a stud. I'm not his daddy or his friend or family member or live in Big Stone Gap or Appalachia. It was just an observation. I was still "letting the coaches coach" LOL, as some love to write. I think the guy who commented on the Narrows player was no different and simply making an observation and he got hammered for it only to be able to serve a touch of crow a bit later.

Trenton is huge fast elusive and last night under used, I was like why can’t they tackle him...then he ran out of bounds near me and I was like... I wouldn’t tackle that freight train either. He should be fed the ball over and over , he got better and to be fair he may be a better/ back but Polier doesn’t come off the field. How old is Trenton now, like 16, jeeeeez he is just now starting to grow. T Jones was 17 too when he went to UVA and got his degree in 3 years . I hope Adkins stays close to home and goes to Va Tech , UVA or UT

  29. Some general coaching stuff had me scratching my head (not kicking the FG late was wild), but in relation to Adkins, I thought he was off the field an awful lot. Even if you're not gonna run him, he's the best decoy around. Leave him in and sell the fake. the RV QB and his top WR, 14, are excellent ballplayers. I love how they weren't afraid to air it out but Union made some great plays to nab some passes. But 14 is an exceptional wideout.

  34. Individuals on this board can speak to this way more than I can, including yourself. I'm assuming colleges look for the size in a lineman and that's it. If they have the frame I guess they feel like they can do the rest as far as strength and technique. If some of you guys on here with knowledge of how the "recruiting process" works and what these schools look for I would love to hear it. May be a completely separate thread so we don't hijack this thread lol

Union looked beastly. Although Ridgeview's receivers made some good catches they had almost no separation when they threw the ball. The Bears definitely looked like the big bad wolf last night.

  36. Some backs can't take the pounding, some can, 2 different skill sets, but you gotta be physical enough to stay in the game and not look for the sideline every opportunity! Fun watching both, and able to rewind it to see it again.

  37. I like how you quote only the part to support your argument and take my statement completely out of context. I truly hope you enjoyed whatever game you attended tonight, and the officiating was up to your high standards. See 1instripes replies above because I could not say it any better. But just for craps and laughs, I kept up for my compensation for you tonight. I left my job on the southern end of our territory at 4:00, and I arrived on site at around 6:20. As a crew, we had a pregame discussion and dressed to be on the field at 7:00 for a 7:30 kick. We were off the field at 9:38, and I got in my vehicle, at 10:01. By the time I made into traffic it was 10:10. I made one stop for a cup of coffee and arrived at my home at 12:06. We’ll call it 8 hours. So that’s $10 an hour roughly. Now take into account I spent $30 on fuel, and $6.83 at a Subway on the way to eat something semi-healthy. Luckily the site I was at takes very good care of officials and we could have anything we wanted at halftime from the concession stand. However, with the nature of the job, I chose not to partake and only have 2 bottles of water. So I’m at $44.17, after what most would consider necessary expenses to perform my duties, I’m at $5.52 an hour. I’m not complaining because I love what I do. The atmosphere, the players, the coaches, and the guys I work with week in and week out. I am just trying to make you see the vast majority of us are not in it for the money, but to go back to your original statement that we’re overpaid is the most disrespectful thing I’ve ever had said to me in my brief time as an official. I am finished with this discussion as I get to have roughly 4 hours of sleep (after I wait for my washing machine to cycle so I can put my gear in the dryer) before I am up and on the road to a college site I report to for a 1:00 kickoff tomorrow a couple of area codes away.

  38. If Polier is not D Player of the year in Mountain 7 then folks we have a problem. Could even argue for O player of the year also. Yes Adkins has 1500 yards but look who those yards come against. All im saying is Big time players have big time games when its a Big time game like tonight. Sproles is good but does not hold a candle to Polier. And I thought this last year as well. Ridgeviews very weak non district games have caught up with them. The HUGE line got knocked of the ball on both O and D and linebackers were for the most part ineffective. Just think they still have Abingdon and Pikeville yet to go. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.

  46. The title was earned. Every regular season game mattered. If you lost one you were out. I think you know that I no not consider each game a title game else I would have them included in Graham's playoff totals. Graham is 3-1 in championship games. To say that they are 4-1 is not correct and a bit disingenuous. But to say the title was awarded also lessens the accomplishment and is a bit condescending on your part.
    1 point
  47. The 1962 championship was earned, not awarded. Every game that year was a championship game. At least when playing a school from Virginia.
    1 point
  48. The pay isnt good enough to entice more people to work I will say that. You get paid more to run the clock in NET than you are paid to work on the field in SWVA. I do know its tough on some schools to pay officials also. Especially if they do not have large crowds as there are plenty of expenses to cover. We have good officials. We have bad officials. Most are there trying to get better. That being said about $25 an hour just doesnt know what all is involved. Lets say the game starts at 7. You should be on the clock so to speak at 5:30, as an hour and a half before the game you should arrive on site so that is one less concern for the schools administration. On average a game will not finish until 9:30, but then you will want to discuss any questions/concerns post game also. Getting out at 10 is about as early as you will begin to head home. So, lets say you are on the job for 4.5 hours to be accurate for what schools are expecting of you. so to be accurate, sure 18.89 is what officials make per hour while "ON THE CLOCK". Slightly above what a growing portion of the country wants McDonalds employees to make. As was mentioned above, some places do a great job of taking care of officials ( I miss Appalachia, no one was better at that than Carol Sabotes). Some not so much, as water is all we ask them to obligate for those working games, and I have been places where that hasn't taken place before but its very rare. The AOA is the largest geographic association in VA I am pretty sure as well. I like going to different schools but certain trips definitely do not leave you very profitable in this vocation.

The big bad Blues beat us again but it's ok, big brother G-Man will get them for us! Someone posted on the board and it made us mad! It's ok, we have a big brother G-Man here to protect us! Will the G-Man be building the Holiday Inn on Main Street as well?
