What a complete joke and major distraction for those kids from Chilhowie. Galax has to have all of the motivation in the world now. Chilhowie fans, staff, and administration are acting like moving a game from a muddy field to a college stadium with wonderful facilities to a field with sinkholes and giant rocks in the corner of the end zone with pine trees two feet from the pylons is a great idea. Also why did they go practice at Emory & Henry? I smell ego city because VHSL moved it to Emory without consulting with them first. I hope all that complained are happy with the outcome. I hate it for those kids especially the seniors. Reminds me of Tennessee trying to hire Greg Schiano lol!

Look I understand your and their concerns and disappointment. Although the post I have seen in social media this morning about calling Galax a bunch #$$##0because they didn't want to play in the mud and they are the reason it got moved is petty and simply not the case. That's not how the VHSL works, three games got moved. I think the surrounding areas would be more simpathetic to the communities complaints if all that was not being spewed all over social media. Galax had no say in it, the school admins no this to be true yet they continue to let their community think this is the case. Look Galax beat us twice this year and I am all for Chilhowie getting the win, although people saying what they are social media is just making Chilhowie look bad. To be honest it is placing an ugly blemish on what is a stellar moment for your community. I completely get the financial impact to the community, I heard Galax had went out and spent a couple of thousand dollars on new cleats for their players just for this game. I am sure their is people on here from Chilhowies administration reading this, so step up and ensure the misplaced anger at the fans of Galax is placed where it should be on the VHSL. IMO, Chilhowie earned the right to play the game wherever they choose. It's football, if they want to play in the mud then the game should be played in the mud.

VHSL should have stood their ground. What dumb decision! The audacity of a politician to step in a situation involving high school playoff venue is ridiculous. Good luck to both teams, not thinking Chilhowie bettered themselves any with this venue change and the they look like a bunch of cry babies, no offense to those Warriors who weren't cry babies.

It's too bad that the VHSL doesn't decide who gets to be in the state game by attendance, if they did, then Ridgeview and Union would be playing in it. 😄

VHSL should have stood their ground with their approval and announcement on Tuesday that the game would be played at Chilhowie.

The fact that a delegate can throw his weight around to get a reversal of a game is just crazy.

So what makes this Mudpit better than Chilhowie field? What a mess this week has been. Heck at this point We are gonna have 1qt in Saltville. 2nd in Chilhowie. 3rd at PH, and end it in Emory.

It is so much more than that. It was earned by the VHSL power points system. Its home field advantage (self explanatory). Its the concession money that benefits the sports programs. It is the positive financial impact that the town businesses and community will benefit from. Its the community rallying around this team and hosting game day events and functions. Chilhowie is a small close knit community and feel these things were taken away from them without any consideration. Its one thing to know you were going to be playing at a neutral site for the last 4 weeks. Its another to change it less that 48 hours before the Kickoff!

This is what is wrong with today's society everyone gets a trophy. 24 kids that's it. First team and move on 11 off 11 defs. Utility player and kicker.

The Graham - Beaver game is an event. It is more than a game. It has evolved into a sort of homecoming in the truest sense of the word for both schools.

Its an age old rivalry, probably had something to do with horse thieves stealing from one another in the 1800's.

I will admit that I didn't watch Pollier enough to compare them and I don't think you watched either of them enough to compare them. I also don't like comparing high school kids. I did however watch Sproles a lot, and even with his awards he is undervalued. He is really really good.

At Ridgeview/Union this year, I couldn't even walk there were just so many people standing around and stuff...

Yeah, they only use it for baseball games, The true king of athletics at Tazewell (insert sarcasm). 🙄 Back on topic. Chilhowie should have at least have gotten a say. I think its just poor PR the way VHSL went about it, but as cityofRaven put the VHSL does not care about anyone's feelings. It will still be a good game regardless. I see Chilhowie winning but in their closest game yet. They will have to battle, which is something they haven't had to do. Look for Chilhowie starters to play their first full game of 2018. Galax will put up a fight bc they are the most battle hardened team in the coverage area. But this is the year of the Warriors. Frankly, this is probably the beginning of the end of State Semifinals being hosted by home teams. I don't think they will touch regionals. I do believe once it gets to state semifinals, you are going to start seeing games moved to neutral sites, closest to the home team for "home field advantage". I could even see teams with turf losing hosting rights, not for fairness, but bc the VHSL said so (insert Stone Cold Steve Austin voice). It sucks frankly but its just a sign of the times. I also just realized how many memes and Late 90s/ Early 2000s WWF/WCW pro wrestling catchphrases I could have included in this post. 😅

VHSL has decided to give Chilhowie another shot at playing the game on their own field Saturday. The rain in supposed to stop tonight and several prominent citizens have persuaded the Trump administration to deploy a couple of Blackhawk Helicopters to dry off the field before kickoff.

After the 5th game of the season Graham became a much better football, this was due to a starting lineman, Riley getting cleared to play after shoulder issues from wrestling. Plus, Graham received a true gift of a football player by the name of Aaron Edwards. Aaron moved/transferred to Graham from a hapless program at Princeton, WV. He was the best football player on their team and the spark that Graham needed. With Edwards starting at LB it made it possible for RB Reed to have to play only on the offensive side of the ball. Reed is a big kid and possibly a little overweight and he is a ton to tackle! If Graham gains control sometime early in the ball game look for Reed and Booker to get behind the Graham offensive line and pound the ball! Although Coach Palmer is known to let it rip at anytime!

They scored the final 35 points.. believe they could beat UVA Wise.

Then why did the game get moved to Emory then? The VHSL Twitter account specifically declares weather as the reason the game was moved.

The field against Union was in pretty good shape because the rain had stopped more than 24 hours prior to the game. Field could be worse for this one depending on exactly when it stops. Just checked weather.com and it looks like the rain may be over hours before game time Saturday. Either way, I think Graham will be just fine. The defense is plenty good enough to keep them in the game should a fumble or some slips occur. As long as they protect the QB and mix up play calling, they're going to score enough points to win the game. Go G-Men!

My boys here in Radford had a crazy game with Gate City last year. The white kid had mad skillz. Now that he is gone and going over what I saw in the playoffs here is my preview for this way to early basketball poll. Feel free to comment. 1. Radford - Our guys havent forgot the last game they played and who they faced. Word on the Avenue is the Cats want a piece of that title held by Gate City and plan on taking it by force. Bobcats take it all this year. No questions. With QMR, Cormany, Jones and company we will have the title in hand come March. But for Gate City all you have to say is No Mac McClung.... No State Title. Nice run but it's done now. 2. Dan River 3. Goochland 4. East Rockingham 5. Martinsville 6. Appomattox 7. Central-Wise. - Had friends who went to watch Gate City play this team in their conference tourney and said without the Mac kid this team would have beat them. Gate City is upset early by this team this year. 8. Gate City - Watched Gate City play at Radford. Without the Mac kid they do not go anywhere. The tall white kid Irving is good but not as good as the pogo stick.The other kid Deans I think it is didnt do much that I saw. They will be very easy to guard and what I saw from the program not very athletic or tough. The Blue Devils get one year to experience a championship. It's back to normal this year with the Cats. 9. Glenvar - The Landers had a young team last year and played very competitive. Keep an eye out. Tie 10. Robert E. Lee - Staunton - New head coach in second year and they lose a transfer guard and Vaughn who is going to Old Dominion. Lee will be competitive but not their old selves. Getting stunned in state took some steam out of their sails. If Lee makes it out of East somehow they get the Cats. Not much better for them again either. Tie 10. Central Woodstock

I have heard Rye Cove will be going into KY to face some Yellow Jackets. In this case you really will have to head west through the Cumberland Gap to get there.

Unlike last year, this is far from accurate. Chilhowie would absolutely push Riverheads to the brink.

I would say let him ride.......unless he crosses the line. Message boards should be about expressing your opinions. He should be able to say what he believes/thinks..........no matter if he is correct or not. Remember.........we ALL have the ability/option to NOT respond to his, or anyone's, post. If you are going to feed the bear, then you have to put up with his growl. Message boards would be a pretty boring place if we all agreed on everything.
