Best 2 players are on the same team?
FootballFan67 and 3 others reacted to Bluefield researcher for a topic
We all know that Cam Allen of Graham is the best player in this coverage area. But after watching the game today I honestly believe Devin Lester is the 2nd best player in the coverage area.4 points -
Reading this thread makes me feel sorry for whoever takes this job and tries to rebuild it. Keyboard coaches who are to sorry to get a degree and try their hand in coaching think they know everything. Here's to hoping GC goes 1-9 forever!3 points

Graham did have some problems earlier in year, very undisciplined. They are much improved and working better as a single unit. They cannot take win for granted and need to be in right frame of mind. I'm a realist, anything can happen in playoffs. Union has beat them three times in playoffs, I'd say they're more than capable of doing it four times. I hope it's a good, fair, competitive game with no injuries for either side. I've said I'll cheer on whomever wins our region and I will whether it's Graham, Union, Richlands, or Ridgeview.2 points -

Nobody is bitching. I support this team like few people do. Iām just calling the game the way I see it. Iāll be there the night before with about 5 or 6 of the biggest Union fans that there is. All Iām doing is saying it will be an uphill battle. Yes, in 2016 we went to Appomattox and tried to pound the rock. 43-0. It didnāt matter. This notion of āif we run it we can winā isnāt the case when you are going against talented teams. Union will have to line up in the T and run it, yes. However, Union is going to have to sprinkle in some passing, which they havenāt done consistently all year.Nobody is asking for the spread, T bone, single wing, or anything else you want to come up with. I love the T, but on 3rd and 8+ it wonāt cut it against a good defense. I hope Iām wrong. I would love to be wrong. And im not trying to question your credibility because I know you are also one of the biggest Union fans out there. Just differing opinions this week.1 point -

I have heard how Sorry Union is , how Graham is going to score whenever they want , I guess by halftime the cheerleaders will be playing. I call bullsh&@ , Union has won 9 games this year, no one has given us nothing, I heard the same line last year āthere is no way a one dimensional team like Union will beat Grahamā well they did. This is a different team with many many new faces. Does Graham have a great team????, at the first of the year we heard how bad they were. by their fans. We have a tough game but everyone knew that the championship for D would have Graham envolved . So letās Quit bitching about the fact we donāt run the spread and throw every down , we areUnion and we run the Rock, we will hit you in the mouth, and we have faced MW of Tennessee and they threw a lot (thank God for those penalties)My point is this , this team reminds me so much of the 1982 Powell Valley championship team , full of no names , no superstars, just kids going to work everyday , and yes these kids have seen this board because I have spoken to several1 point -

Exactly as agreed in the original post. Of course, my familiarity of him is strictly through his tweets re: sports. I'm not familiar with his writings but no doubt he's highly respected. I've followed his 'great state' tweets through the years and would be laughing my head off with his subtle humor, also, warming was his love for 'little unit' on display. Since I had commented on him , I thought I should mention others who are also great resources for me in pulling/posting scores, etc., thus my expanding the list. Now on to the following: Thank you to ALL who have served...we enjoy what we have because of your sacrifice and heroics!!! Union doesnāt have anyone fast enough to keep up with Graham. Jenkins is fast, but Graham has 5 Jenkinsā on that offense. Graham will have to shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly and Union play keep away and score on all possessions to win this one.1 point

Richlands at Ridgeview
swva_havok_fan reacted to big ugly vol for a topic
I can very well see Ridgeview being upset here, but it has nothing to do with our out of conference schedule. The play calling is ridiculous at times. They almost refuse to pass or run Sexton most games and usually itās Adkins up the gut 40 times a game no matter what. However Sexton did get some touches this week. If we mix up our offense we win. If not this game is very winnable for Richlands. Donāt get me wrong I like Adkins but when people canāt just key on him it will just make him and the team better. Go Pack.1 point -

Our local sports journalists produce excellent material and are grossly under-compensated. Jerry Orr (Smyth County News) was the quintessential small-town sports writer/editor. That was until the heartless folks at Berkshire Hathaway Media decided to eliminate his position after 35 years of service. He had worked for the paper since his 1983 E&H College internship. His wife, Cindy Burkett (former Rich Valley and E&H star), volunteered countless hours for the paper as a sports photographer.1 point -

Union @ Battle
GoBearsGo reacted to BigWinners for a topic
I don't disagree, but it's on the staff for not developing a more diverse and dangerous passing game. Even with limitations, you should at least throw different looks and route combinations even if you have no intention of doing more than throwing to the checkdown out of backfield or the five yard curl. If a defense thinks you might throw it over the middle or may target someone they aren't expecting, it forces them to respect that in coverage and can open up the field. Union never even tries to throw the ball in the middle of the field or has multiple receivers running different routes. It's just too many screen passes, hitches, and corners with the occasional (meaning once every three weeks lol) deep shot. Some of the calls today were headscratching to say the least. 3rd and 7 or so, near midfield-sweep to the short side of the field. Then, on 4th and approx. 3, Union runs a QB misdirect run? Really? Turner isn't very mobile at all any more and you have four runners capable of making plays, yet that's the call? I'm not downing Turner (QB) in the least, he's a high school kid doing his best and always gives 100% effort every second, but sometimes I think the staff doesn't put him in great positions to succeed. And the staff HAS TO be more organized in their substitution patterns. Too many times the players running off and on were completely confused after given two different calls or having the call changed at the last minute. That hasn't happened often much this year but it happened a couple times today.1 point -

Warriors_XO reacted to Unionguy_2017 for a topic
For Union to have any sort of a chance at all they have to be the much, much, much more physical team. They canāt beat Graham to the corner. They canāt pass it on Graham whatsoever. They have to line it up, run at graham, and somehow, someway make it work. I love union football. Iāll be there all night Friday night for the campout. But I donāt see it ending well. Hhsdevils93 reacted to Vol Hater for a topic
Personally I hope for a Union win but with that said the offense has went in the wrong direction the last 4 games unless coach Turner is just not wanting to show his hand and by keeping his playcalling close to the vest this game could get ugly quick. Graham has revenge on its mind and Union is playing the underdog card. So I'm saying Union scores late then holds onto win 28 Graham 24.1 point -

This will definitely be a good game. Graham will have to come ready to play and eliminate some of the mistakes they had today. Graham's defense is much improved. They seem to be clicking as a unit. I'm not the best at predictions either but I sure hope we win. We need all the fans we can get to get behind this team. Sometimes I feel like I'm at a PGA Tour event. On a side note. Mike Horton, coach for Graham, is one hell of a motivator. If those kids wouldn't run through a brick wall after hearing him then nothing will motivate them. He reminds me of Scott Cochran from Bama. Go Graham!1 point -

For Union to win, Something drastically has to change with the offense. If Union gets down they do not have the high powered offense to get back in games quick! If the Bears can limit Allen and Lester and make Graham beat them another way it could be a good ball game!!!! I'm not good at predictions so I'll just leave that open for everyone else to do!!!1 point -

Quoted sixcat but the system locked up and kicked me out ...re the following is expanding on my prior quote with sixcatā¦ Would add Tim Hayes, BHC, also, outstanding in his field. On game night he is always hunting down scores from different sources, details and facts, he is an excellent sportswriter. Gregory for BHC is a good writer but with a different role .(Sacco, formerly with the BHC, also a good writer, a tad quirky :) but did a good job.) Nate, BHC is the TN coverage guy. Brady Hess, former Richlands FB player and new VT grad, IMO is an 'up and comer' in the field. Brian Woodson, BDT, is doing a good job...but being a 'one man show' kinda makes it hard to cover a lot of ground. The Kingsports TN sports crew...does a great job of hunting down scores. Thanks to all the sportswriters etc. who keep us informed and 'entertained'.1 point -
Richlands at Ridgeview
Gridiron60 reacted to Suit Up for a topic
As much as I want to see the playoff Richlands of so many years past that really turns it on in the postseason, I just donāt see this game being competitive as of right now. Since the first quarter of the graham game offensively the execution had been absolutely miserable. I donāt believe Moir is a horrible high school quarterback, but seeing him in years past he is so much more valuable as an offensive and defensive weapon. The issue is thereās no one more competent to take the reigns on this team.its surely not trey brown, no offense intended. I think thatās where the teams struggle begins and ends. I have not seen the season long improvements as is usual with a Richlands team. In ways, they look worse than they did at the beginning of the season offensively and defensively and thats not what you want to see in November. I hope Iām wrong but I think Ridgeview wins by 17 or more.1 point -
