My point is every team has to plat the team in front of them. Each team is gunnig for them and wants to win. And on any given night can win. Who evey thoughy abingdon would beat rv. But they still had to play the game. Is its grahams fault that richlands is having a down year. But yet they are playi y the toughest schedule and lost to graham. And some made excuses for that but not from richlands. Graham faced each opponent and and won with the exception of bluefield and i doubt none of the teams left here would fare any better with them. I think it is pretty good that graham has done as good as they have this year and i myself am very proud of how far they have come seeing how so many complained how bad they were to start with lack of discipline and defense. Win loss record of their opponents outstanding they still are one of the better teams around in my opinion.4 points

There will be a big crowd. People who normally would have to work late on Friday and couldn't make the drive will now come and more people will come because the weather is supposed to be nicer. We had a terrible crowd there last Friday and I know no one expected the game to be that good, but the weather was terrible and probably hurt. Also we keep talking about Ridgeview not having a very good passing game, but I think it is better or could be better than people know. The OC pretty much refuses to throw the ball and we have very capable and actually very good receivers. I believe even if we had D1 prospects at WR he still wouldn't throw the ball much. Actually I'm not sure he would throw it to Randy Moss. haha I've watched every game and I love this team, but it doesn't take even a football expert to understand that we is very predictable. People sit in the stands and tell you what play is coming next. If Richlands has the athletes to stop or even just match up with our players, it won't take much of scheme to stop them. The way we beat people is we are just more talented or bigger than them. When we play people that are as big and talented. Well Abingdon is an example. We haven't played anyone else who is.2 points -

I’ll even go on the defensive some. 1988 Jonesville Va goes 5-5. Goes on to win the Group 1A state title. Beating undefeated teams along the way. The very next year, Appalachia Va does the exact same thing. That being said, those are the exceptions to the rule. Not all sub 500 teams are gonna battle test you for the playoffs. Most do not. I respect Giles and Richlands. Brutal schedules. Not worried about going 9-1 or 10-0. Battle tested. Tip of the cap!2 points -

At this point regular season records mean nothing. Every team on Saturday is 1-0 in post season. Right now, that's the only record that matters. Two will walk away 2-0 and the other two will go home 1-1 and hope for another chance next year. I've said whichever team plays smartest, hardest, & stays focused should win. I can see any two of the four advancing. No team should think they have it in the bag and I honestly do not think any of them have that mindset. Hoping for a competitive, fair, injury free, and good sportsmanship game for all teams on Saturday in Region 2D.2 points -

I'll probably rile some folks here but here goes: Darren Reed while he may be a douche to many was not the issue at Central. My son loved playing for him and said that when he started playing at E&H and the others were whining at the beginning,he was saying to himself "Hell Coach Reed worked us harder than this". At the time Darren was at CHS NOBODY would have won due to the culture and politics. I am very hopeful that this is finally changing at CHS. ,.You'll not find a harder working man in that line of work than Reed. He just had a bunch that was pampered, spoiled, and too many whiny, griping parents to deal with at CHS2 points

I would think that has been the plan for everybody the last 11 weeks. I have been hearing from some parents that the reason the game is moved to Saturday is so they can get an extra day of practice. Word is James Colley has been back on campus helping install the Tiger Air Raid offense. The plan is to pass at least 35 times this week. Colley's only request was to have some of the old Sandlick field brought up and put on the sideline. He wants to be able to draw up the plays in the sand with 5 leaves, 4 bottle caps, a penny, and a cigarette bud like old times.2 points -

The SWD being unexpectedly bottom-heavy torpedoed Graham’s SOS. Can’t really avoid Lebanon, Marion, Tazewell, VHS. Richlands was down in comparison to what Richlands usually is. Giles had their worst season in 31 years, so that’s not fair to pin on Graham. Even so, Central and Fort Chiswell were 2A playoff teams. The only two I really have issue with are Princeton and Central. Princeton especially is a point anchor. Could have easily picked up another school to avoid that point hemorrhage.1 point -

I’m a bit hesitant about having this conversation solely by records alone. Especially with for example a 5-6 LCC, or an 11-3 Shelby Valley. Etc. I don’t think those are very good teams in Virginia 2A competition. On the contrary, a 3-7 Morristown West team, even though they are down in comparison to their classification, would do very well up here.1 point -

Even though Graham's schedule may not be the toughest or even close to it they have beat each one of their opponents the way they should have. There is something to be said for not letting your guard down and taking a team that you know going into a contest you should beat easily and end up losing. Upsets happen on a regular basis at any level and much of that has to do with the better team overlooking the next man up. To me they seem to be pretty darn focused right now.1 point -

I been working on the chain...gaaaang...
Mountain Football reacted to chipinbogey for a topic
Why were the chains on the home side is my first question? Unless it's similar to a Hurley setup where they are the team facing the press box, that should never be an issue. That matter is trivial compared to the matter that the HL (maybe LJ in this case) did not do a great job in their pregame with the chain crew. You HAVE to keep your eyes on them and most of the time in the back of your head because it is frowned upon to look back. A lot of them do amazing jobs for nothing more than a hot dog and bottle of water at half time, if they even get that. This isn't on the line judge(as the heavily biased article states) as much as the chain crew. The chain crew is an essential part of the game, and I remind everyone I have the pleasure of working with that by accepting that position, they forfeit all bias and are under the direction of the head linesman and referee. This seems like it wasn't communicated, and if it was, it was not communicated strongly enough. 1instripes, I'll agree that probably shouldn't be a line of commentary made by an observer, however, I do not find it shocking. I've learned in my relatively short officiating life span that there are plenty of "cut throat" officials everywhere who never miss a chance to throw their brother under the bus to keep the heat off of their neck.1 point -
If you're referring to BigTom, he isn't a Union poster. And I don't know who else you could be referencing since all but one or 2 of us have already said that Graham is the better team and will probably win.1 point

Yeah, the stands are pretty big, but that will be a huge crowd. Good thing is that all the other region 2 teams are playing at home and that should keep the crowd back a little. I absolutely hate places where the stands are all on one side. You're just asking for trouble with that setup.1 point

I agree with them being in the M7 based on geography. What they need to do is try and schedule bigger schools for all of their OOC games, which they may have done this year I'm not for sure.1 point

I find that incredibly hard to believe. If a college wants to recruit a kid, they talk to that kid. Yes they approach the coach to get a better understanding of the player and yes coaches have been known to badmouth some players at times, but I've never heard of a scholarship being given to the coach to give to a player. If a college wants to offer a kid a scholarship, they get in touch with the kid and make sure the player receives a LOI. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm simply stating that's not how things work 99% of the time.1 point -

Graham will not "roll" in this game. If this game was being played at Mitchell, I would say Graham by two tds, but this is at Union. I will say, Graham did end up winning big on Saturday, but there were times when they looked rough and back to their old ways like the beginning of the season. Graham has the same mental block with Union like they did Richlands meaning they have lost the game in their heads before they even step foot onto the field. The only way to cure that is to win the game. Graham is peaking at the right time but what I saw on Saturday scared me. If Graham plays a complete game physically but most of all mentally, Graham will win this game but it is not going to be a blow out like everyone is saying. Graham 21 Union 161 point -
